Loan modification scams are proliferating in our communities as scam artists prey on homeowners who are facing foreclosure. This is a dangerous threat. Unethical mortgage foreclosure “rescue” and loan modification companies claim they can assist homeowners with “options” that will allow them to keep their property, refinance, or modify an existing mortgage. Often they charge a fee of several thousand dollars with no hope of successful resolution of the problem. In reality, these companies want homeowners to make wrong decisions so that the operators can take their money and possibly their homes. You can get the help you need for FREE! Whether it is to modify their loan, obtain a refinance, or seek ways to vacate the home with a soft landing, the information does not cost anything when a nonprofit housing counselor is on their side working with them to negotiate with their loan servicer.
