Wastewater Treatment Plant
History
  • Implements a pre-treatment program which regulates the discharge of wastewater from non-domestic industrial sources city wide
  • Monitors the pre-treatment programs of Peoria and Sun City
  • Has been in operation since 1968
  • The original 4.7 MGD plant has two expansions
  • 1981 to 8.3 MGD capacity
  • 1988 to treat an average dry weather flow of 17.5 MGD
  • Treats wastewater from the cities of Tolleson, Peoria and Sun City
  • Treated effluent is piped to the Palo Verde Nuclear Generating Station
  • In the event that Palo Verde cannot accept the effluent, it is discharged to the Salt River under a AZPDES Permit
